The figurines are ready. Transfer them to foil and a baking sheet and dry at a low temperature in the oven for several hours until completely dry. The drying time of salt dough products depends on their thickness. Do not set the temperature too high, otherwise the crafts may burst. If you can’t wait to continue working, wait for at least the outer layer to dry and start coloring. And you can completely dry the product later, on a radiator or in the sun.

For the color design of crafts, we suggest painting them with paints, but you can also use felt-tip pens. It is not recommended to use watercolor, because. it is very liquid, and the figures can get wet. If you only have watercolors at your disposal, first dilute them with a few drops of water to a thick state, and you can paint.

Dough figurines can be additionally decorated with glitter or other small decorations. If the figurine is cracked or broken, no big deal! It can be glued with any sticky glue or glue gun.

To create a flower from salt dough in a wicker basket, in addition to the main components, you will need a wooden frame without glass, colored cardboard or paper for the background of the picture and a glue gun. Of course, the composition of this magical dough is different from the one from which grandmothers bake cheesecakes. There is no single, "correct" recipe, each master uses his own. We will try to stick to one of the directions, but if you want, you can experiment with the proportions of water, flour and salt. Only on your hands there should not be cuts and abrasions, otherwise the salt may get into the wound.

For work we need:

- flour - 1.5 cups;

- salt - 1 cup;

- water - 1 glass;

- dry wallpaper paste - 1-2 tbsp. l.;

- sunflower oil - 1 tbsp. l.;

- utensils for kneading;

cutting board or any smooth surface

Operating procedure

1. Pour flour and salt into a container and carefully add water little by little (be sure to first flour, then water, and not vice versa, otherwise lumps may form) and mix. If lumps form in the dough, knead them with your hands. So we interfere with the whole dough until it becomes soft and homogeneous in composition.

2. Add sunflower oil to this mass so that the dough does not stick to your hands, and wallpaper glue - so that the dough becomes like plasticine, bendable and elastic. Mix all this again thoroughly and knead the remaining lumps.

3. Now we take the dough and put it on a cutting board. We roll out the dough several times with a rolling pin in order to completely exclude the possibility of lumps.

4. Put the dough in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator for an hour. An hour later, the dough is ready to go.

During modeling, you should not immediately take out all the dough from the bag - it will quickly begin to dry out in the air. It is better to pinch off the necessary pieces, and close the rest with a bag. If the dough remains after sculpting, you can put it in the refrigerator - it can be stored there for several days.

If your hands are wet, the dough will stick to them. You have to dust them with flour. And in order to fasten the parts together, on the contrary, you need the dough to be wet. To do this, we wet the parts that we want to glue with ordinary water and a paint brush.

After the dough figures are molded, you need to dry them, this can be done in two ways.

Method one- just leave the toy at room temperature to dry for 3-4 days or more - it all depends on the size of the toy and the temperature of the room.

Method two- roasting in the oven. We put the toy on a baking sheet and place it in a preheated oven. The temperature should not be very high, it is better to bake on low heat for 30-60 minutes. The figurine is ready when it acquires a light brown tint, but by no means dark.

It is best to paint the toy with tempera or acrylic paints, as they are the most resistant - watercolor will look pale and quickly absorbed, and gouache will leave marks on the hands.

The finished product, if desired, can be coated with a transparent varnish. And remember, although the toys look strong, they are actually easy to break if accidentally thrown on the floor. Therefore, do not leave them on the edge of the table and in those places where they can be easily broken. And glue the salty figures on the frames and pictures securely, so that they do not fall over time.

Part of the mass for modeling can be left unpainted (it has a light beige color), and part can be painted in different colors using gouache paints. If you sculpt from colored dough, you will not have to paint finished products. This is especially important if small children will be sculpting, for whom it is still difficult to accurately hit a certain place with a brush.

You will need uncolored salt dough and a set of gouache or acrylic paints. Paints must be in a pasty state. If they are dry, add some water to the jars and wait until the paint softens.

Take a piece of dough in your left hand, such that it fits freely in your fist. Make a dent in the middle of this piece. With the index finger of the right hand, scoop up a piece of paste from the jar and place it in this recess.

Close the edges of the dent so that the paint is inside.

Roll the dough ball up and down between your palms. Hands get a little dirty, but it doesn't matter - the paint is easily washed off with water. And so that the dough does not stick to your hands very much, moisten them with sunflower oil.

Having rolled out a long sausage, fold it in half and roll it again. Repeat this operation until the “marble” stains disappear and the color becomes uniform. If the dough becomes too soft after adding paint, add a little salt and flour to it.

Pieces of colored dough can be mixed, like paints, and achieve the shade you need. To do this, you just need to take two pieces of dough and knead them together until then. until the dough becomes homogeneous:

Blue + white = cyan;

White + red = pink;

Blue + pink = purple;

Blue + yellow = green;

Yellow + red = orange;

Green + red = brown;

Green + blue = emerald.

Excess colored dough that remains after sculpting can be mixed into one lump so that they do not dry out. The result will be an "incomprehensible", most likely gray-brown color. But he, too, can be useful for something.
